Canada defeated Switzerland 2–1 to reach its eighth consecutive Olympic women’s hockey final. Captain Marie-Philip Poulin scored twice during the second period to break a goalless tie, setting up another gold-medal meeting with the United States in Milan.

Poulin’s goals brought her career Olympic total to twenty, surpassing compatriot Hayley Wickenheiser’s record of eighteen. Canada outshot Switzerland 46–8, but Andrea Braendli’s goalkeeping and determined Swiss defending kept the result uncertain through the closing stages.

The final margin was the narrowest in an Olympic meeting between the countries. Switzerland moved into a bronze-medal game against Sweden, renewing the pairing from its medal-winning 2014 campaign, while Canada prepared to face the Americans in another match between the tournament’s longstanding leading nations.
