Franziska Preuss announced that the Olympic women’s mass start at Milano Cortina would be the final race of her biathlon career. The German confirmed her decision through social media after an Olympic programme that included mixed relay bronze.

Preuss entered the Games as the 2024–25 World Cup overall champion but had struggled with standing shooting during the fortnight. Her retirement announcement confirmed that she would end her international racing rather than continue into the remaining World Cup events.

Her career began with three gold medals and one silver at the 2012 Youth Olympics. She later developed into a senior World Cup winner and overall champion, leaving the sport with the Olympic bronze shared with her German mixed relay teammates.
