Puerto Rico ends Tall Ferns world cup hopes with 77–61 win

New Zealand's women's World Cup qualification hopes ended with a 77–61 defeat to Puerto Rico in San Juan. The Tall Ferns required a substantial final game victory but instead saw the hosts recover from a nine point first quarter deficit and secure their Berlin place.
Pamela Rosado led Puerto Rico with eighteen points, including key second quarter three pointers. A nine point unanswered run at the start of the fourth quarter extended the home advantage, and another late burst put the result beyond New Zealand.
Ella Tofaeono scored seventeen for the Tall Ferns, while Sharne Robati added thirteen points and ten rebounds. Coach Nat Hurst praised the squad's cohesion and progress despite the difficult tournament, with Tofaeono finishing as New Zealand's leading scorer at eleven points per game.
