Quinn Hughes scored at 3:27 of overtime to give the United States a 2–1 victory over Sweden in the Olympic men’s quarter-finals. The win secured a semi-final meeting with Slovakia after a close, low-scoring contest in Milan.

Dylan Larkin scored the American goal in regulation, but Mika Zibanejad equalised for Sweden with ninety-one seconds remaining. Connor Hellebuyck made twenty-eight saves for the United States, while Swedish goalkeeper Jacob Markstrom stopped thirty-eight shots during the extended game.

Hughes created room for a forehand shot that beat Markstrom and ended Sweden’s tournament. The American defender described relief at keeping his Olympic experience alive, while Sweden captain Gabriel Landeskog recognised the quality of the shot required to decide a match dominated by the goalkeepers.
