Rails joins junior world championship medal programme
Calgary’s Park and Pipe championships added the format after its European Cup introduction.
Source publication date:
FIS confirmed that rails would be a medal competition for the first time at the Park and Pipe Junior World Championships in Calgary. The event at WinSport Canada Olympic Park brings together fourteen- to eighteen-year-old snowboard and freeski athletes across slopestyle, big air, halfpipe and the added format.
Rails had moved into the European Cup programme during the previous season. Its junior world championship inclusion marks a further step in the discipline’s development within the FIS competition structure, with its finals scheduled to close the championships on 7 March.
The Calgary venue hosted events at the 1988 Winter Olympics and the first FIS snowboard slopestyle World Cup in 2010. The opening championship programme began with freeski and snowboard slopestyle qualification.
