Raimund claims Olympic normal hill gold
The German won ahead of Kacper Tomasiak as Nikaido and Deschwanden shared bronze.
Source publication date:
Philipp Raimund won the Olympic men’s normal hill ski jumping title in Predazzo despite entering the Games without a World Cup victory. Poland’s Kacper Tomasiak claimed silver, while Ren Nikaido and Gregor Deschwanden shared bronze on 266 points.
Raimund led after a 102-metre opening jump and retained first place with 106.5 metres in the final round. Tomasiak, nineteen and competing in his first full international season, matched Deschwanden’s 107-metre hill record with his final effort.
All four medallists earned their first Olympic medals. Nikaido also surpassed the previous hill record with 106.5 metres, contributing to a final in which long jumps and execution scores determined a tightly contested medal order.
