Jarl Magnus Riiber described the technical changes he helped introduce as an equipment specialist for Norway’s Nordic combined team after retiring. The former overall champion worked with coaches to improve jumping setups, symmetry and movement, seeking to reduce the athletes’ deficits before cross-country racing.
Riiber said Jens and Einar Luraas Oftebro, Andreas Skoglund and training partner Kristjan Ilves initially found the changes uncomfortable. Autumn weather limited access to Norwegian jumping hills, adding difficulty before results improved around the new year.
In a new FIS interview, Riiber also said the role initially consumed more time than expected after retirement. A period of parental leave provided family time during winter. He linked the team’s later progress to sustained training and growing trust in the revised technique.
