Rossendale Harriers described a new approach to retaining older teenage athletes and preparing them for senior training. The club acted on feedback that juniors were worried about the demands of senior sessions and unfamiliar with the athletes they would join.

A transitional group now gives teenagers dedicated opportunities to train alongside seniors, build relationships and learn the structure of sessions. Coaches manage junior workloads within those activities, while a specialist spring-and-summer fell group provides another development option.

The club also resurfaced its track, refurbished its gym and updated its website. Junior coordinator Nick Pilkington said later feedback had been positive from both age groups, and urged clubs to revisit athletes’ views after making changes to assess their effectiveness.
