Ruetz secures Austria’s first women’s alpine luge globe in 27 years

The Austrian won the Umhausen eliminator and became unbeatable in the overall standings.

Riccarda Ruetz won the women’s Alpine Luge World Cup eliminator in Umhausen to secure her first overall title with one race remaining. The victory returned the women’s championship to Austria for the first time since Elvira Holzknecht’s 1998–99 season.

Ruetz completed the final in 1:14.21, ahead of Nina Castiglioni on 1:15.34 and Lisa Walch on 1:15.67. It was her fourth win of the campaign and established an insurmountable advantage in the standings.

Fabian Achenrainer won the men’s eliminator in 1:13, completing two victories across the weekend. Daniel Gruber finished second and Hannes Unterholzner third, with Gruber retaining the men’s overall lead before the concluding race in Jaufental.
