Three unseeded players advanced after demanding second-round victories.
Source publication date:
Antonia Ruzic defeated Zheng Qinwen 6–4, 7–5 to reach the Indian Wells third round on her tournament debut. The one-hour-fifty-four-minute win required the Croatian to recover an early break and regain control after Zheng erased a 5–2 second-set deficit.
Ashlyn Krueger beat Liudmila Samsonova 3–6, 7–5, 6–2 after trailing by a set and 5–3. The American hit eleven aces and won six consecutive games during the turnaround, continuing improved form after a recent Austin semifinal appearance.
Sonay Kartal saved a match point against Emma Navarro before winning 6–1, 3–6, 7–6(2) in two hours thirty-four minutes. Navarro twice served for victory, but the British player recovered and dominated the deciding tiebreak to arrange a meeting with Madison Keys.
