Rybakina opens Dubai campaign with swift victory

Elena Rybakina defeated Kimberly Birrell 6–1, 6–2 in sixty minutes to begin her Dubai campaign. The Australian Open champion won the first eight points and quickly established a 5–0 lead, taking the opening set in twenty-three minutes.
Rybakina broke for 2–1 in the second set and then recovered from 40–0 down on Birrell’s serve to add another break. She saved three break points in the final game before completing the straight-set victory.
The top seed finished with nineteen winners and won ninety-one percent of points behind her first serve. Her unbeaten record in Dubai opening matches extended to six appearances, and she advanced to meet Antonia Ruzic for the first time.
