Aryna Sabalenka withdrew from the Doha tournament, citing a change to her schedule after the Australian Open. The world number one’s absence made Iga Swiatek the top seed for the season’s first WTA 1000 event, scheduled from 8–14 February.

Sabalenka had begun the year with eleven consecutive victories and a Brisbane title before finishing runner-up in Melbourne. She previously won Doha on her debut in 2020 but had not repeated that success in later appearances.

Lois Boisson also withdrew with a leg injury and was set to miss Dubai. Emiliana Arango and Cristina Bucsa replaced the two players in Doha’s main draw, while Sabalenka remained scheduled for Dubai at the time of the announcement.
