Sabine Winter reflects on rise to world number eleven
The German player discussed lessons from Singapore and her continuing Asian competition schedule.
Source publication date:
Sabine Winter rose to world number eleven following her Singapore Smash semifinal run. In an interview published through the German Table Tennis Association, the thirty-three-year-old reflected on competing against world number two Wang Manyu and using difficult matches to guide her training.
Winter said Wang’s visible effort during their semifinal encouraged her belief that she could compete with the leading players. She then travelled directly to Sanya on Hainan Island for a team event, playing alongside Anton Källberg, Yuan Wan and Sofia Polcanova against Chinese teams.
Her recent results included the Europe Top Sixteen Cup title and a Champions final in Montpellier. Winter discussed handling greater expectations while focusing on development. She was due to return to Bundesliga matches with home club Dachau in April and contest the TT-Finals in Erfurt in June.
