Scheib wins Åre giant slalom and first Crystal Globe
Moltzan and Robinson completed the podium after Rast’s second-run elimination.
Source publication date:
Julia Scheib won the women’s giant slalom in Åre to secure her first Crystal Globe, finishing 0.36 seconds ahead of Paula Moltzan and 0.75 ahead of Alice Robinson. Her fifth World Cup victory moved the Austrian to 660 discipline points, an unassailable 189-point lead with one race remaining.
Camille Rast led the opening run ahead of Scheib but failed to finish the second, ending her title challenge. Several contenders briefly held the lead before Scheib’s performance set the final benchmark, making her Austria’s first women’s giant slalom globe winner since 2016.
Moltzan described a controlled first run followed by a less tidy second descent, while Robinson welcomed another podium after inconsistent giant slalom results. Scheib highlighted managing pressure and concentrating on her skiing throughout the race.
