Semwal saves five match balls for first World-event victory

Om Semwal saved five match balls to defeat Sebastian Salazar in the JSW Indian Open first round. The twenty-two-year-old Mumbai wildcard won 11–6, 11–9, 8–11, 10–12, 19–17 in seventy-two minutes for his first victory in a PSA World-event match.
Salazar led 10–7 in the decider before Semwal saved three consecutive match balls. The Indian also survived chances at 12–11 and 15–14, eventually converting his fifth opportunity when Salazar hit the tin. Semwal was ranked one hundred fourteen places below his opponent.
Tanvi Khanna added another home victory by beating Maya Weishar 3–1 in the women’s draw. Elise Romba removed Risa Sugimoto in straight games, and Yassin Shohdy recovered against Manuel Paquemar to win 3–1. The tournament continued on the Cricket Club of India’s traditional courts.
