Senegal beat New Zealand 61–45 in a low scoring women's World Cup qualifier in San Juan. Both teams entered seeking their first tournament victory, and Senegal's rebounding strength and defensive length proved central to the result.

A seventeen point to one surge in the third quarter established control after Senegal had led by five at half-time. The winners collected seventeen offensive rebounds and scored eighteen points from turnovers, while Yacine Diop led their scoring with thirteen.

Ella Tofaeono contributed ten points for the Tall Ferns, with Tegan Graham and Rebecca Pizzey adding nine each. New Zealand made a late attempt to narrow the gap, but Diop's three pointer ended the challenge. Coach Nat Hurst cited execution and rebounding as key shortcomings.
