Shiffrin wins eighth slalom of season in Åre
Aicher reached her best discipline result behind the American’s 109th career victory.

Mikaela Shiffrin won the women’s slalom in Åre by 0.94 seconds over Emma Aicher, claiming her 109th World Cup victory. Wendy Holdener took third as the American secured eight slalom wins from nine season starts, matching the single-season record shared with Janica Kostelic.
Shiffrin led Aicher by 0.51 seconds after the first run and extended the advantage through another attacking descent. Aicher’s second place was her best World Cup slalom finish, narrowly ahead of Holdener after the German moved six-hundredths faster than the Swiss skier on combined time.
The victory lifted Shiffrin’s overall points total to 1,286 against Aicher’s 1,146 with further races remaining. The slalom season was due to conclude in Hafjell on 24 March.
