Shiffrin wins record ninth slalom of World Cup season
The Hafjell victory extended her overall lead before the remaining giant slalom.
Source publication date:
Mikaela Shiffrin won the final women’s slalom in Hafjell by 1.32 seconds, establishing a World Cup season record of nine discipline victories. Wendy Holdener finished second and Emma Aicher third, four-tenths behind the Swiss skier, as Shiffrin added her seventy-third career slalom win on the circuit.
A first-run advantage of 1.10 seconds provided the foundation for another controlled, attacking descent. Shiffrin had already secured her ninth slalom Crystal Globe in January and received the trophy after a season in which only Camille Rast had beaten her in the discipline.
The result extended Shiffrin’s overall advantage over Aicher to eighty-five points. One giant slalom remained, with a top-fifteen finish sufficient to secure the overall title, which was still undecided at publication.
