The pair defeated Errani and Paolini after a long rain interruption.
Source publication date:
Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend won the Miami Open doubles final 7–6(0), 6–1 against Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini. They became the sixth women’s pair to win Indian Wells and Miami in the same season, completing the Sunshine Double after their earlier California title.
Rain interrupted the opening set for almost three hours, and the final moved from Stadium to Grandstand. Siniakova and Townsend then swept the tiebreak without losing a point before winning six consecutive games from 1–0 down in the second set.
The seventy-nine-minute playing-time victory delivered both players’ first Miami titles. Siniakova collected her thirty-fifth career doubles championship and Townsend her fourteenth. Their successful March run also lifted the team toward third place in the season’s WTA Finals qualification race.
