Siniakova ends Andreeva’s Indian Wells title defence in three sets
The Czech saved nineteen break points during a two-hour-forty-eight-minute comeback.
Source publication date:
Katerina Siniakova defeated defending champion Mirra Andreeva 4–6, 7–6(5), 6–3 to reach the Indian Wells fourth round for the first time. The two-hour-forty-eight-minute contest followed another marathon victory and pushed the Czech through a demanding singles draw.
The players generated forty-two break opportunities and each lost serve seven times. Siniakova saved nineteen of twenty-six break points, including three in the final game when Andreeva threatened to bring the deciding set back on serve after an uneven match.
Andreeva had led 5–4 in the second-set tiebreak before errors allowed Siniakova to force a decider. The Czech finished on a fortunate net cord and advanced to face Elina Svitolina, against whom she had lost all four previous professional meetings.
