Sobey signs two-year Phoenix extension
The second season is a mutual option as South East Melbourne retains a leading scorer.
Source publication date:
South East Melbourne extended Nathan Sobey’s contract for two years, with the second season subject to a mutual option. The 35-year-old was producing a career-high 21.9 points per game, alongside 3.8 rebounds and 4.7 assists during the NBL campaign.
Basketball operations manager Simon Mitchell described Sobey as a professional standard-setter and respected leader. Completing the agreement before the postseason allowed the club and player to focus on their immediate championship pursuit while confirming at least another season together.
Sobey said the decision reflected the welcome he had received from the front office and supporters since joining. His NBL career had covered 326 games across Cairns, Adelaide, Brisbane and South East Melbourne, including an All-NBL First Team selection in 2021.
