Spain finish fifth at European women’s championships
Israel took seventh as Croatia achieved its best finish in the event.

Spain defeated Croatia 23–9 to finish fifth at the European women’s water polo championships in Funchal. Bea Ortiz scored five goals and Elena Ruiz added three as the Spanish side ended its tournament with a decisive classification victory.
Croatia’s sixth place was its best result at the championships, improving on eighth-place finishes in 2010, 2022 and 2024. Spain finished outside the medals for the first time since 2012 after six consecutive appearances in the top four.
Israel beat France 20–12 in the seventh-place match. Maria Bogachenko scored seven goals to reach twenty for the tournament, helping Israel improve from ninth in 2024 to seventh, while France moved from sixth at the previous edition to eighth.
