Stewart goal completes Singapore’s successful qualifying run
Singapore defeated Bangladesh 1-0 at the National Stadium.
Source publication date:
Singapore concluded their Asian Cup qualifying campaign with a 1-0 home victory over Bangladesh. The result at the National Stadium took the Group C winners to fourteen points, while Bangladesh finished the final round with five.
Singapore had already secured a historic finals place on merit by defeating Hong Kong, China on the previous matchday. Their final fixture therefore offered a chance to celebrate that achievement with home supporters, although Bangladesh’s defensive resistance made the contest difficult.
Harhys Stewart broke the deadlock in the thirty-first minute with his first international goal. Singapore continued to direct the match after half-time as Bangladesh searched for a response, but neither team scored again and the hosts preserved the narrow victory.
