Stolz adds Olympic five hundred metres gold
Both he and silver medallist De Boo finished below thirty-four seconds.
Source publication date:
Jordan Stolz won the Olympic men’s five hundred metres in 33.77 seconds, setting a record and earning his second title at Milano Cortina. Jenning de Boo finished just 0.11 seconds behind in 33.88, with Canada’s Laurent Dubreuil taking bronze in 34.26.
The American and Dutch sprinters raced together again after contesting the thousand metres. Stolz opened in 9.55 seconds, ahead of De Boo’s 9.62, then preserved his advantage through the outer final turn to bring the Olympic record below thirty-four seconds.
Dubreuil had briefly lowered the record himself before the leading pair took the ice. His bronze added a medal in his preferred distance to the thousand-metre silver he won at Beijing, completing an Olympic podium in both sprint events.
