Jordan Stolz won the Olympic men’s thousand metres in Milan with a record time of 1:06.28. Jenning de Boo finished second in 1:06.78, while Ning Zhongyan took bronze in 1:07.34, seven hundredths ahead of fourth-placed Damian Żurek.

Stolz and De Boo raced together, with the Dutchman holding a 0.37-second advantage at the six-hundred-metre split. Stolz responded on the final lap to reverse that deficit and finish half a second ahead, maintaining his successful form in the distance.

The American had won the previous fourteen World Cup thousand-metre races he entered. He had to wait through a reskate involving Joep Wennemars before his first Olympic title was confirmed, and identified the remaining events as further opportunities.
