York City beat Hartlepool United 3–2 through Josh Stones's penalty deep into stoppage time. Hartlepool had twice equalised, including a debut goal from substitute Charlie Caton, before the hosts secured the decisive final intervention.

Alex Newby opened the scoring in the nineteenth minute with a half-volley. Reiss McNally headed in Jamie Miley's corner to bring Hartlepool level before halftime, and the visitors remained in contention through several defensive clearances after the restart.

Hiram Boateng restored York's lead in the 84th minute, but Caton converted during a goalmouth scramble in added time. York subsequently received a penalty after Max Kouogun brought down Zak Johnson, and Stones converted to win the match.
