Linn Svahn won the women’s freestyle sprint at the Cross-Country World Cup in Falun, beating Kristine Stavås Skistad by 0.29 seconds. Nadine Fähndrich took third, 3.73 seconds behind, as the Swedish Olympic champion continued her winning form on home snow.
Svahn set the fastest qualification time by 4.65 seconds, then won her quarter-final and semi-final before taking the final. Skistad finished second behind her in each of those knockout races and threatened again near the final finish.
The victory was Svahn’s fourth sprint win in Falun but her first there in freestyle, with the previous successes coming in classic technique. The podium featured the same three athletes as the previous year’s race, with Skistad and Fähndrich exchanging positions.
