A late deciding-set break settled the Ukrainian’s two-hour-nine-minute victory.
Source publication date:
Elina Svitolina defeated Iga Swiatek 6–2, 4–6, 6–4 to reach her second Indian Wells semifinal and first since 2019. The two-hour-nine-minute quarterfinal gave her a second victory in six meetings with the Polish player and a tour-leading nineteenth win of the season.
Svitolina broke three times in the opening set, exploiting Swiatek’s difficulty behind second serve. Swiatek recovered in the second, but the deciding set began with eight consecutive holds as both players resisted pressure and kept the contest finely balanced.
The Ukrainian broke in the ninth game and then served out at love, finishing with a clean net putaway. She remained unbeaten in six deciding-set matches during the season and advanced to meet Elena Rybakina for a place in the tournament final.
