Sweden defeated hosts Italy 6–1 to take first place in Olympic women’s hockey group B with two wins. Three second-period goals opened up a match between teams that had both won their tournament openers by the same 4–1 score.

Thea Johansson scored twice and added an assist, reaching four tournament points. A crowd of 10,727 filled the Santagiulia arena, predominantly supporting Italy despite Sweden being listed as the home team. The Swedish players welcomed managing that atmosphere while maintaining their approach.

Italy fell to one win and one defeat but showed more resistance than in the countries’ previous Olympic meeting in 2006. Its players praised the collective effort and looked towards the remaining games, while Sweden’s greater number of high-quality chances converted territorial control into a clear victory.
