Sweden shut out Czechia to reach the Olympic women’s semi-finals
Hanna Olsson’s power-play goal and strong goalkeeping settled the quarter-final.
Source publication date:
Sweden defeated Czechia 2–0 in the first Olympic women’s hockey quarter-final. Hanna Olsson scored the winning goal on a second-period power play, and Ebba Svensson Traff made twenty-eight saves to ensure that the Swedish advantage remained intact.
Hilda Svensson assisted on Olsson’s goal and added an empty-net finish in the final minute. The result extended Sweden’s unbeaten tournament after four regulation victories in group B, confirming that its progress continued against opposition from the stronger preliminary group.
The semi-final place represented an important step in Sweden’s rebuilding programme under Ulf Lundberg. The country’s previous Olympic medals came in 2002 and 2006, with its last top-four finishes in 2010 and 2014. Czechia’s tournament ended after the shutout defeat.
