Swiatek reverses Doha defeat against Sakkari in Indian Wells
The second seed recovered from 2–0 down to win in straight sets.
Source publication date:
Iga Swiatek defeated Maria Sakkari 6–3, 6–2 to reach the Indian Wells fourth round. The victory reversed their Doha quarterfinal result from the previous month and moved Swiatek ahead 5–4 in a rivalry that had included two finals at the California tournament.
Sakkari broke immediately and held for 2–0, but Swiatek raised her forehand level and won six of the opening set’s final seven games. The Polish player broke three more times in the second set, finishing with five breaks across the match.
Swiatek saved six of eight break points and improved her Indian Wells record to 24–3. She credited better adjustments to shorter balls, wind and returns for the turnaround from Doha, as the slower courts again supported her pursuit of another deep tournament run.
