The top seed extended several winning sequences with a straight-set second-round victory.
Source publication date:
Iga Swiatek defeated Janice Tjen 6–0, 6–3 in sixty-nine minutes to begin her Doha campaign. The top seed conceded only eight points in the opening set before the Indonesian wild card offered greater resistance during a more competitive second set.
After early service breaks were exchanged, Swiatek broke in the eighth game and served out the match. The victory extended her sequence of opening-match wins at WTA 1000 events to thirty-two and her overall tour opening-match run to seventy-two.
Swiatek advanced to face Daria Kasatkina, who defeated Elise Mertens 6–4, 6–0. The Polish player entered that meeting with six consecutive straight-set victories against Kasatkina, although the Australian had previously held a top-ten ranking.
