Source publication date:
Switzerland defeated the Faroe Islands under-21s 1-0 at Stockhorn Arena in Thun. Winsley Boteli scored with thirteen minutes remaining, finishing at the far post from a corner after the Faroese side had kept the hosts level for most of the match.
Goalkeeper Hans Jákup Arngrímsson made important saves when Switzerland created its clearest chances. The visitors pressed for an equaliser after falling behind, and Virgar Jónsson threatened with a long-range effort, but the Faroese team could not recover the deficit.
The result left Switzerland third in the qualifying group, two points ahead of the fourth-placed Faroes. Iceland had moved into second place after beating Estonia 6-2. The Faroese under-21 team’s next fixture was scheduled away to Estonia on 25 September.
