Switzerland rally to defeat Czechia in an Olympic shootout

Switzerland defeated Czechia 4–3 after a shootout in its Olympic women’s hockey opener. The Swiss recovered from a two-goal deficit during the third period before Ivana Wey scored with a low wrist shot in the eighth round of the deciding sequence.
Alina Muller contributed a goal and an assist in regulation, while Laura Zimmerman and Lara Christen also scored for Switzerland. Kristyna Kaltounkova, Natalie Mlynkova and Tereza Plosova supplied the Czech goals, with Czechia finishing ahead 36–31 in the shot count.
Both teams used backup goalkeepers, giving Olympic debuts or first starts to Michaela Hesova and Saskia Maurer. Czech coach Carla MacLeod credited Switzerland’s recovery, while the Swiss players stressed their continued belief through the closing stages as Czechia lost a second successive group A game.
