Takeshi Takeoka won the men’s under-66kg title at the Paris Grand Slam by defeating Channyeong Kim in the final. The reigning world champion initially fell behind when the Korean scored with a ko-uchi-gaeshi, forcing the Japanese athlete to raise his pace.

Takeoka responded by scoring waza-ari with a sumi-gaeshi and immediately moving into a hold-down to finish the contest. The sequence secured another major title for the world champion during the first day of competition in the Accor Arena.

Azerbaijan’s Ruslan Pashayev earned bronze against Valerio Accogli, using a yuko to settle a close contest. Japan’s Kairi Kentoku took the other bronze against France’s Daikii Bouba. Kentoku maintained distance against his opponent’s close gripping style and scored twice to secure the medal.
