Taubitz wins Olympic women’s luge gold
The German beat Elina Bota and Ashley Farquharson after four consistent runs.
Source publication date:
Julia Taubitz won Olympic women’s singles luge in Cortina d’Ampezzo with four consistent runs and a combined time of 3:30.625. Latvia’s Elina Bota claimed silver and American Ashley Farquharson took bronze, giving three countries places on the podium.
Taubitz set a track record during the competition and completed the title she had pursued at Beijing 2022, where a second-run crash left her seventh. Her successful Cortina performance converted a strong four-year cycle into an individual Olympic gold.
German teammate Merle Fräbel had been close after two runs but made a start error on the third and eventually finished eighth. Bota produced the fastest start in every run, while Farquharson followed her strong November test-event performance with an Olympic medal.
