The Italian National Championships were scheduled for 20–22 March at Terni’s PalaTennistavolo Aldo De Santis. The venue is home to the Italian federation’s technical centre, and the programme was expected to bring the leading national players together for the season’s major domestic competition.
Doubles titles were due to be decided on Friday, followed by singles qualifying and play through the round of 16 on Saturday. Sunday’s schedule began with quarterfinals before progressing to the semifinals and finals in both singles draws.
Giorgia Piccolin and John Oyebode entered as defending singles champions. Piccolin had won five national singles titles, while the wider field included experienced multiple champions and younger players seeking their first senior crown.
