Thiagus Petrus explained how he developed into a specialist defender in EHF's March player series. The Brazilian was competing in his thirteenth Champions League season after joining Veszprém, where he reunited with former Barça coach Xavi Pascual.

Petrus traced the change from playing at both ends to advice received at Szeged, followed by seven seasons with Barça and three Champions League titles. At Veszprém, he joined a central defensive group including Ali Zein, Dragan Pechmalbec and Patrik Ligetvári.

He described video analysis, mobility and communication with goalkeepers as essential parts of anticipating attacks. The interview also examined how faster handball had changed the demands on defenders, requiring continued adaptation even after many years at the highest club level.
