Thuler header gives Vissel an away advantage in Seoul
Maekawa’s penalty save helped preserve a 1-0 first-leg victory.
Source publication date:
Vissel Kobe defeated FC Seoul 1-0 at Seoul World Cup Stadium to gain the advantage in their AFC Champions League Elite round-of-sixteen tie. Matheus Thuler supplied the only goal, while goalkeeper Daiya Maekawa protected the lead with a second-half penalty save.
Thuler headed in from close range after Rikuto Hirose’s corner was deflected towards him. Seoul later threatened through Song Min-kyu, whose effort struck the crossbar, but could not find an equaliser before the interval.
A handball by Kento Hamasaki gave the hosts a chance to draw level from the spot midway through the second half. Maekawa stopped Leonardo Ruiz’s penalty, and Vissel resisted further pressure to take their narrow lead into the return fixture in Kobe.
