Northern Ireland’s men’s Under-17 team defeated Sweden 2–1 at the Pinatar Arena in Murcia on February 18. Eamonn Tohill and captain Joel Kerr scored before halftime as Andy Waterworth’s side began its two-match friendly visit to Spain with a win.
Tohill opened the scoring in the 25th minute after Daniel McCarron’s flick-on. Kerr then won and converted a penalty in the 41st minute, giving Northern Ireland a two-goal advantage at the interval.
The team limited Sweden’s opportunities after the break, although substitute Oliver Mansson scored a late consolation. The match formed part of preparations for U17 European Championship elite-round qualifiers against Spain, Türkiye and Scotland scheduled for March.
