Totsuka wins Olympic snowboard halfpipe gold
The Japanese rider scored 95 points ahead of Scotty James and Ryusei Yamada.
Source publication date:
Yuto Totsuka won the Olympic men’s snowboard halfpipe final in Livigno with 95 points on his second run. Australia’s Scotty James took silver with 93.50, while Ryusei Yamada earned bronze on 92 points, giving Japan two medals.
Totsuka’s winning run linked switch and regular triple cork 1440s with an alley-oop rodeo and further technical combinations. His score remained beyond the field through the final round, including top qualifier James’s last attempt to win gold.
James fell on the final trick of that attempt and finished with his second consecutive Olympic silver after bronze in 2018. Yamada produced two different runs worth 92 points, while Totsuka converted his strong World Cup season into an Olympic title.
