Melbourne United announced that entrepreneur Travis Knipe had acquired a thirty per cent shareholding and would join its ownership group and board. The club said the transaction brought its estimated valuation to AUD 50 million, a record for an Australian basketball club.

Knipe is executive chairman and former chief executive of StarRez, a property and education technology company. He also chairs Children's Fortress Africa, a Nairobi organisation supporting vulnerable children through education, healthcare and community programmes, bringing commercial and philanthropic experience to the appointment.

United chief executive Nick Truelson thanked departing owners for their contribution to the club's sustained competitiveness. Knipe described the team, its history and supporters as reasons for his involvement, with the new ownership arrangement intended to support the club's next period of development.
