Turner and Francesia Boirai win junior snowboard cross golds
Both nations earned first titles in the discipline after racing was advanced for weather.
Source publication date:
Cameron Turner became Australia’s first junior snowboard cross world champion in St Moritz, while Lisa Francesia Boirai delivered Italy’s first women’s title. Officials advanced the individual programme to Friday because of a forecast snowstorm, beginning with pre-heats instead of the originally planned weekend qualification schedule.
Turner won the men’s final ahead of Swiss debutant Kenny Schlaeppi, with Tommaso Costa taking bronze in a photo finish against Benjamin Niel. The nineteen-year-old Australian had previously won mixed team silver and entered after another podium in the venue’s European Cup race.
Francesia Boirai defeated Noemie Wiedmer in the women’s final, ending four consecutive French titles. Fiona Caiolo Serra took bronze and Nuria Gubser fourth, while Wiedmer collected her third consecutive junior championship silver.
