The United States retained the mixed four-by-two-and-a-half-kilometre Paralympic relay title in Val di Fiemme. Joshua Sweeney, Oksana Masters and Sydney Peterson handed Jake Adicoff a forty-eight-second deficit in fourth place, before he and guide Reid Goble passed the leading teams to secure gold.
Ukraine finished second through Lyudmila Liashenko’s anchor leg, with China taking bronze ahead of Germany and Canada. Masters, Peterson and Adicoff had also belonged to the winning American quartet in Beijing, while Sweeney added cross-country gold to his earlier Paralympic ice hockey title.
China won its first open relay gold through Shuang Yu’s final-leg pass of Germany’s Marco Maier. Norway edged Ukraine by two-tenths of a second for bronze after another closely matched finish.
