The United States defeated Czechia 5–1 to begin its Olympic women’s hockey campaign in Milan. Hayley Scamurra scored twice and Tessa Janecke provided two assists, helping the Americans convert their attacking advantage into a clear result despite competitive Czech resistance.

The United States finished with a 42–14 advantage in shots. Czechia nevertheless created several promising opportunities, with missed attempts preventing a closer score. Players from both teams described a fast and physical contest shaped by the intensity of the Olympic setting.

The Americans prepared to meet Finland in their next group A game, while Czechia faced Switzerland the following day. American forward Britta Curl welcomed the ability to maintain the team’s approach under pressure, and Czech players identified more efficient finishing as necessary for later tournament success.
