The United States reached the Olympic men’s hockey final by defeating Slovakia 6–2 in Milan. The Americans scored early and late in the first period, then built a five-goal advantage before Slovakia found a response in the third.
Jack Hughes scored twice and Zach Werenski supplied three assists. Dylan Larkin and Tage Thompson established the opening-period lead, with Jack Eichel and Brady Tkachuk also on the scoresheet. The United States finished with a 39–24 advantage in shots.
The result set up a gold-medal meeting with Canada, the countries’ third Olympic final in the NHL participation era. Slovakia moved into the bronze-medal game against Finland, with captain Tomas Tatar acknowledging that the side’s poorest tournament performance had come at a costly moment.
