United States eliminate Italy from Olympic women’s hockey
Five second-period goals secured an American quarter-final shutout.

The United States defeated hosts Italy 6–0 in the Olympic women’s quarter-finals, reaching the last four with a perfect record from five games. A five-goal second period transformed the contest after Italy had initially kept the score close.
Kendall Coyne Schofield scored twice. Megan Keller, Laila Edwards and Britta Curl each contributed a goal and an assist, while Hannah Bilka also scored. Caroline Harvey supplied two assists to reach nine points and lead the tournament’s individual scoring.
The Americans outshot Italy 51–6 in the countries’ first meeting in IIHF women’s hockey. The win completed four consecutive shutouts and extended the team’s no-goals-allowed streak to 271:23, an Olympic record, while bringing the hosts’ encouraging tournament run to an end.
