Vittozzi wins first World Cup mass start in Oslo
The Italian recovered from an early penalty and passed Oeberg on the final climb.
Source publication date:
Lisa Vittozzi won her first World Cup mass start in Oslo, completing the women’s twelve-and-a-half-kilometre race in 34:58.9. An opening prone penalty had dropped the Italian to sixteenth, thirty-four seconds behind, before three clean shooting stages restored her place among the leading contenders.
Hanna Oeberg missed once at the final standing stage but retained the lead. Vittozzi left eight seconds behind and closed the gap on the last loop, passing the Swede on the final uphill and pulling away near the shooting range.
Julia Simon finished sixth with three penalties, which was sufficient to secure her second mass start Crystal Globe. She ended the discipline standings on 285 points, ahead of Vittozzi’s 186.
