Satomi Watanabe defeated Georgina Kennedy 11–9, 11–5, 11–6 to win the inaugural Steel City Open. The thirty-two-minute Pittsburgh final delivered the Japanese world number six’s eleventh PSA title after a demanding route that included a five-game semifinal against Jasmine Hutton.
Kennedy led 8–6 in the first game before Watanabe won four consecutive points and then secured the opener. The English player again went ahead midway through the second, but Watanabe responded with seven straight points to establish a two-game lead.
The top seed accelerated in the third and closed with a forehand drop shot after Kennedy saved two championship balls. Watanabe described rediscovering her form after earlier injuries and difficult results, acknowledging support from Japan and work with Alison Waters in London.
