Watanabe beats Sobhy in five games to reach Optasia semifinals
The Japanese player advanced to a third consecutive semifinal at the Wimbledon tournament.

Satomi Watanabe defeated Amanda Sobhy 3–2 in the Optasia Championships quarterfinals at Wimbledon. The Japanese world number seven won 8–11, 14–12, 11–6, 6–11, 11–7 in sixty-two minutes, reaching her third consecutive semifinal at the event she won in 2024.
Watanabe reversed a recent Chicago defeat to Sobhy and earned a meeting with Hania El Hammamy. The defending champion beat Rachel Arnold in three games. Nour ElSherbini and Georgina Kennedy also advanced, maintaining the possibility of a final with the world number one ranking at stake.
Mostafa Asal beat Mohamed ElShorbagy 3–0, extending his streak to twenty-one consecutive matches without dropping a game. Joel Makin eliminated Marwan ElShorbagy, while Diego Elias and Karim Gawad won in straight games to set the other men’s semifinal meeting at the tournament.
